Take Me Out to the Field
The other day I went to my very first professional baseball game. Now, I'm not what one would call a "fan" of baseball. I don't think I could name a single player if I had to and I will definitely flip quickly past a baseball game on tv without so much as checking the score. But when a friend called me up on Monday and said he had won some tickets to an A's-Indians game at a charity auction last week I decided I'd give it a try. I mean, I DID used to play softball in high school so I know the general gist. Dude throws the ball. Other dude hits it. Then all the rest of the dudes scramble around to grab the ball and throw it at dude standing by the base. Easy peasy.
So off we drove to Oakland armed with our tickets and a sweet VIP parking pass. (Sidenote: VIP treatment rocks. Never turn down anything with the letters VIP in it.) Once we got there and parked within spitting distance of the stadium, we armed ourselves with the obligatory beer and hot dogs and headed off to our seats. Did I mention VIP? Our seats were so good I felt unworthy to be sitting there. 12th row. Right behind the dugout on the first base line. And so, of course I was bound to have a good time. The beer didn't hurt with that endeavor either I might add.
So the moral of the story is: never turn down free tickets. I can't say it made a fan out of me, but I can appreciate a good game of anything. What I really need now are some Warriors tickets. Some VIP Warriors tickets. Anyone? Anyone?
